Langston Hughes was a poet, novelist, and social activist from Missouri, US. He was born on February 1, 1901. Hughes was well-known as one of the founders of jazz poetry. His most remarkable piece was called “the Negro was in vogue”, which was reworded as “when Harlem was in vogue.” I will later list the most inspiring and popular Langston Hughes quotes but first, let’s get to know him first.
He started writing as a columnist in various publications in New York while also studying at Columbia University, then finished at Lincoln University.
Hughes also wrote short stories and playrights. He started his social activism for Black people in the popular black newspaper “The Chicago Defender”. He was a close friend of Walt Whitman who believed that Langston was a homosexual. However, this was never confirmed nor denied by Hughes.
