Maya Angelou was born as Marguerite Annie Johnson on April 4, 1928. She died on May 28, 2014, while it was not clear what was the cause of her death, many speculated of heart ailments or natural causes. She was known as an American poet, memoirist, writer, and civil rights activist.

Several movies, plays, and television shows were inspired by her books, autobiographies, and poetry. She also works jobs as a cook, nightclub performer, and sex worker. She became prominent in activism when she worked as corresponded in Egypt and Ghana while the decolonization of Africa.

She was active during Civil Rights Movement and work alongside Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X. Angelou recited her own poem during the inauguration of Bill Clinton. One of her most famous autobiographies was called “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” which was published in 1969.
