Born Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle on May 22, 1859. Doyle was a British author known for his fictional character popular worldwide – Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The duo which started as four novels and 56 short stories features the genre of crime fiction.

Doyle actually studied medicine at the University of Edinburg Medical School and studied practical botany at the Royal Botanic Garden. He practised medicine and also studied ophthalmology in Vienna in 1891.
When Doyle was 27, he wrote the first book of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in just three weeks although he struggled to find someone to publish it (1886) and was paid £25 (around £3,000 today). The book received great reviews right after its publication. In 1892, his book is now known everywhere in the UK and even around Europe.
If you think Doyle can’t be more of an interesting man, after being a published author, and a doctor, he was also involved in sports. He played football as a goalkeeper in Portsmouth. He was also a cricketer and played from 1899 to 1907. Doyle also dabbed in boxing, golfing, billiards, and skiing.
Apart from Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson’s novel series (A Study in Scarlet), Doyle also wrote and published the book “The Hound of the BaskervilleS2, “The Lost World”, and “The Sign of the Four”.

Doyle died of a heart attack in July 1930 at the age of 71. he was found in the hall of his house in Sussex holding his chest. His last words were for his wife “you are wonderful”.
