J.R. R. Tolkien, born John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892, in England. He was a writer and a poet. Tolkien is popular for writing high fantasy books The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to name a few. He was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1972. Tolkien met his future wife, Edith Mary Bratt when he was just 16 and she was 19. His guardian at that time disapproved of the possible romantic relationship between the two. One is because she is Protestant and the other is because she’s older than Tolkien. His guardian told him to wait until he is 21 years of age.
On his 21st birthday, he wrote to Edith. They got engaged in 1913 and married in 1916. Edith was the inspiration of Arwen in The Lord of the Rings. They had four children. His children especially one of the youngest, Christopher, assisted a lot in the film making of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
The Hobbit was published in 1937 but didn’t gain attention until the 1960s. Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings in 1938 which took him nearly 10 years to write. It was published in 1954 and took off right away.
Today, one of his books The Silmarillion was published after his death by his son Christopher. Both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit was popular and widely known books.
